MEET

Eric Adelman

"You can only lead someone to a place that you yourself have been."

How It Started

From a young age, it was obvious that Eric would end up in business. He was “that kid” selling anything he could fit in his middle school locker, from snacks to trading cards to POGs, and even a few fireworks. That last product line didn’t end well for Eric, who learned a wonderful lesson on power dynamics and mercy from his school principal. As the opportunities grew, so did his ambitions.

Once the early days of wheeling and dealing for sizable pocket money ended, he began a career in executive recruiting. Working for AC Lion for two years, he shattered a host of Rookie Records for the team. As a young married father at the young age of 26, he did something just a little bit crazy and left to co-found his own recruiting firm, Three Pillars Recruiting.

Working in the lucrative field of Digital Media and Online Ad Technology, his firm placed thousands of professionals in jobs with Silicon Valley and Silicon Alley’s hottest startups. The keys to the company’s growth included Eric’s ability to attract and retain an amazing team, his keen sense of observation and inclination towards action, a little bit of luck, and his ability to cut through the noise and understand what motivates each party to a transaction.

Pointed Key Past Experience

Internal

Eric built a team of Executive Recruiters largely comprised of people with no prior experience. He showed them how to harness strengths that they never knew that they had and taught them how to grow their own careers in ways they had never thought possible. Dozens became incredibly successful, both in his company’s employ, and afterwards. Through being a personal example and presenting examples, he has led and motivated both individuals and teams to focus and accomplish the job at hand.

External

He spent 14 years working with literally hundreds of companies across all divisions, and placed candidates ranging from entry-level to C-suite executives. His work focused mainly on VC-backed startups, but included Fortune 100 companies as well. This led to a unique understanding of challenges common to all businesses, but particularly startups with 10-200 employees. Throughout the hiring process, a recruiting firm has the opportunity to truly see under the hood of its clients’ operations, and Eric proactively assimilated this knowledge, building a solid, foundational understanding of how business works in the real world.

How it’s Going

After his successful exit from Three Pillars in 2019, Eric gained experience evaluating businesses that are for sale, and speaking to dozens of sellers about their niche. He ultimately purchased a turn-around opportunity: a cut and sew business, First Avenue Manufacturing, that sells bed linens through wholesale and ecommerce channels. This was new, exciting and scary. He continues to lead that business, driving it forward strategically across many aspects of the organization.

Eric recognizes the highs and lows of business and has learned to use professional losses as fuel to propel each next stage of his personal journey. He has learned, and can teach you, the art of staying focused. He can help you move forward in the face of crushing rejection, and how to get through 99 “no’s” without letting it stop you from picking up every single “yes.” He has worked on his own, as the sole “Buck Stops Here” decision maker, as well as with a 50/50 business partner, both in good times and bad. He can coach you to take ownership of the choices and decisions you have the responsibility and opportunity to make.

Eric lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, four kids and one tiny dog. He enjoys fine kosher wine, bourbon, spirited conversations, and reading biographies of uniquely successful people. He graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business with a degree in Marketing.

Why I Coach?

My journey along the path to becoming a coach was a happy accident. I was blessed with a sixth sense for business, sales and situational analysis. With those God given abilities as my foundation, I have organically moved through each successive stage of my career. There was no pro-active plan to coach people professionally, but if you do enough things right for a long enough time, people simply start to notice. I organically became a trusted resource for relatives, friends, and even friends of friends to help grow their businesses or provide guidance in their careers.

Over the years, I became a trusted resource and began to field more and more calls from professionals I had crossed paths with, personal friends and extended acquaintances. Every conversation started with a version of “I wasn’t sure who to ask about this, so I thought about who might be able to help me, and you were the first one who came to mind.” The calls, emails, and texts grew more frequent over the years, until there were usually several per week.

I told myself that I was saying yes to all of the quick conversations due to a sincere desire to help, and that is true, but deep down it was because I really loved it! In 2019 as a way to formally give of my time, knowledge and experience to others, I began volunteering by coaching for The Jewish Entrepreneur. I loved it from the start but when it was evident that I was a driving force that changed so many companies and careers, one of my trusted mentors bluntly stated that I needed to personally take the steps to formalize a structure to become a professional Business Coach. Starting Bigger Cup Consulting is the result of following my own advice and thinking bigger to achieve potential.

Nowadays, I don’t only have quick chats and offer advice, I dedicate time in my schedule to take on a few new clients each month in a deeply supportive way so that I can take the journey of entrepreneurship with the select few who are extremely committed and coachable.

I hope that you’ll join me on that journey, and look forward to speaking with you.
